I think that's a good point about organizations in general. Few want to close up shop, but most are not interested in reinventing themselves unless forced to do so. A religious corporation has an advantage in that they aren't selling a physical product - it's a service. It's easier to retool and revamp a service - hairdressers learn to cut new styles, accountants learn to work with new laws, but a wagon builder has a much harder time switching to building cars.

What Does the Organization Teach Us About Organizations?
by metatron inthis may sound cynical but..... i have been part of an organization that has greatly profited itself by stringing people along for 130 years and taking their contributions while falsely promising armageddon soon.. so, i wonder.
how often is this pattern repeated in general society?
yup, we're right on the edge of a cure..... real soon.... any day now.... just a little longer.

Since exiting the Witnesses have you Become More " Spiritual " ? - Not ........
by flipper in..... necessarily more religious, but more spiritual in a non-religious way ?
although being religious is one of the definitions os " spiritual " it encompasses much more in the webster's new world dictionary , under the word spiritual it's definition is : " 1. of the spirit or the soul as distinguished from the body or material matters 2. of, from, or concerned with the intellect ; intellectual 3. of or consisting of spirit ; not corporeal 4. characterized by the ascendancy of the spirit ; showing much refinement of thought and feeling 5. of religion or the church ; sacred, devotional, or ecclesiastical ; not lay or temporal 6. spiritualistic or supernatural .
quite a variety of definitions !

I feel more connected to other people, the community, and the earth. When I was a true believer tm I didn't feel connected to anything but the borg. I don't know where all this will lead me, but I feel like I'm becoming a better version of myself.

JW boyfriend, the sequel
by SEL inalmost a year ago i made a few posts here about how much effort i ought to put into getting a man i loved considerably out of the wt.
by that point i had already put in a lot of effort and accumulated a nice collection of books on the wt, on cults, on bible chronology.
then i finally gave up and decided to leave.. we kept in pretty regular touch until last fall, when i moved a neat twelve time zones away.

Block him and move on. I dated a guy way back in college who went home over the semester break and got married. He didn't bother to tell me, but someone else clued me in before I saw him after school started up again. I told him that I wasn't going to be a side piece, no matter the situation, and he should just stop calling me. He tried calling me a few more times, but I wasn't playing that game.

by jbeau504 ini'm new to this board and looking to see what it's all about.
i'm currently an unbaptized publisher and third-generation jw, so for obvious reasons i can't give my real name due to personal concerns.

Secret signal to find each other at District Convention
by RayPublisher inlast year this was brought up and it was a great idea but maybe a bit too late.
do you remember the "secret signal" that was going to be used?
it should not be mentioned in the main thread, only through email and pms.

If I honestly thought that anyone on here would be attending the Evansville, Indiana District A$$embly, I'd be tempted to go. Maybe I'll stand outside in a Vast Apostate Army shirt and hand out copies of Crisis of COnscience instead.

we have a similar problem. we have 3 kids, and we've got a really nice swingset/play structure and lots of toys. Our house is a kid magnet for all the neighborhood kids whose parents let them run free. The ones who spend the most time at our house are the ones whose parents don't know us, and I find that a little disturbing. Our kids have been homeschooled from the start, so half the time *they* don't know these kids either. It's really hard to get rid of some kids - they just don't seem to understand "go home". Last night, one little boy who just turned 6 a couple of weeks ago was over. I sent him home when it was time for my kids to eat dinner before heading to their boy scout meeting. He came back twice before we finished, and he still managed to forget his school bag.

Facebook and employment interviews
by DaCheech inlistening to this in the news got me infuriated!.
there is a growing trend that employment interviewers are asking for facebook profile with login password.. they are looking into everything you post.. there is no law in the books to prevent this!.
even though i'm self employed, i think this goes beyond what's required of hirees!.

I wonder how they would react to an applicant who claims not to have a facebook account? I honestly do not have any social networking accounts. This is the only site I post on, although I do have photobucket and flickr accounts that are set as completely private.

The hall I attended was really small. It was formed in the 1980s I think, and never had more than 40 publishers. We attended there from 1999 through 2011, so roughly 13 years. I can list by name every single person who ever attended regularly during those years, and by my count, at the present time less than half the people on that list are still attending at that hall. There have been some who moved away and may be attending elsewhere. There were only 2 baptisms in all those years that were not born ins - me and Just Ron. All of the "growth" except for us was due to already baptized people moving here, or already baptized people having children.
